EV Charging for Developers & Builders

EV charging for Developers and Builders

With the rise of EVs, developers and builders are facing new challenges and opportunities in the design and construction of new buildings.

The integration of EV charging infrastructure can greatly benefit both the environment and the building occupants, making it a crucial aspect of modern development. In this web page, we will explore the advantages of including EV charging in your building plans, and how it can help you stay ahead in an ever-evolving market.

From boosting property values to attracting tenants and reducing energy costs, we will show you why EV charging is an investment worth making. Let's dive in!

Electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure can benefit developers when planning to build new apartment buildings in several ways:

Increased demand
Installing EV charging stations in an apartment building can make the building more attractive to potential residents who own EVs, thereby increasing demand and attracting a wider range of tenants.

Competitive Advantage
Offering EV charging as an amenity sets the building apart from others and makes it more attractive to environmentally conscious residents.

Increased property value
Having EV charging infrastructure in a building can increase the overall value of the property, making it more attractive to potential buyers.

Future-proofing

As the number of EVs on the road continues to grow, having charging infrastructure in place will ensure that the building remains relevant and up-to-date with changing technology and consumer preferences.

What is the installation process for a new building/ development?

  • Design and Layout
Site plans provide detailed information about the layout of the building and the surrounding area, which helps us to determine the best location for charging stations and the associated infrastructure equipment. It allows us to assess the available space and identify any potential obstacles that could impact the installation of the charging infrastructure.

  • Electrical Design
Once the site has been assessed, an electrical design is developed to determine the electrical requirements for the charging stations, including the size of the electrical distribution board and the amount of spare capacity.

  • Building Approval
The electrical design must be approved by the building authorities and a building permit obtained, if necessary. This ensures that the installation of the charging infrastructure meets all relevant building codes and regulations.

  • Installation
Once the electrical design has been approved, the installation of the charging infrastructure can begin. This typically involves the installation of cable trays, the running of cabling, and the installation of the charging stations themselves.

  • Testing and Commissioning
Once the installation is complete, the charging infrastructure is tested to ensure that it is functioning correctly and meets all relevant safety standards. This typically involves a series of electrical tests, as well as functional tests to confirm that the chargers are working correctly.

  • Charging Management System
A charging management system is installed to control and monitor the charging process. This system is responsible for managing the allocation of charging stations, setting charging rates, and providing real-time information about the status of each charger.

  • Ongoing Maintenance
Finally, regular maintenance is required to ensure that the charging infrastructure continues to function correctly and meets all relevant safety standards. This may include regular electrical safety tests, as well as maintenance of the charging stations and the charging management system.

What is the handover process, post construction?

  • Final Inspection
Chargex will conduct a final inspection of the charging infrastructure to ensure that it has been installed correctly and meets all relevant safety standards. Any necessary repairs or adjustments will be made at this stage.

  • Handover Documentation
We will provide a detailed handover report, including all relevant technical specifications, as-built drawings, and a list of any warranties or guarantees associated with the charging infrastructure.

  • Billing and Management System
Chargex will take over the billing and electricity usage for the charging infrastructure and will work with the new residents and strata managers to implement the EV charger management software and billing process.

  • Training
We will provide training for the building management and residents on how to use the charging infrastructure and the management software. This will include information on how to use the charging stations, how to access and pay for the charging services, and how to report any issues.

  • Ongoing Maintenance
Chargex will be responsible for ongoing maintenance of the charging infrastructure, including regular electrical safety tests, maintenance of the charging stations, and maintenance of the charging management system.

  • Support
Chargex will provide ongoing support to the building management and residents, including answering any questions, resolving any issues, and providing technical support as needed.
